From forming to a functional finished surface.

JWJ connects forming, precision machining, pretreatment, specialized surface finishing and inspection around the finished component. We address how each stage affects the next, helping customers coordinate dimensional, appearance and functional requirements within one manufacturing route.

Appearance-grade micro-arc oxidation

With JWJ’s developed micro-arc oxidation process, applicable components can achieve the required appearance directly after micro-arc oxidation, without additional spray painting or other surface finishing. This reduces downstream finishing stages and the coordination they require.

Optical components: machining and light-absorbing treatment

For optical components, a machined shape still needs the specified surface function. Plan light-absorbing areas separately from precision fits, protect the mating surfaces that need masking, and review the optical requirement and surface condition alongside the machining route.

Casting quality, machined surfaces, pretreatment and coating conditions all affect the finished appearance. JWJ combines process-integration capability with practical high-acceptance-rate experience in magnesium e-coated appearance parts.

High acceptance depends on the complete process.

The challenge is to deliver consistent appearance, adhesion and fit on an active metal substrate. JWJ coordinates forming, machining, pretreatment, e-coating, curing and inspection, with practical high-acceptance-rate experience in magnesium appearance parts.

Reactive substrate and adhesion

Magnesium is chemically active. Surface films, residual contamination and the condition left by machining can change the interface on which a coating forms. A suitable, repeatable pretreatment is fundamental to adhesion.

Deposition and gas release

E-coating deposits charged coating material under an electric field. Hydrogen evolution during deposition can leave pores in a wet film. Deposition and curing therefore need to be considered together when controlling pinholes and appearance.

Casting surface and machining transitions

Coating cannot substitute for control of the substrate. Exposed pores, tool marks and local surface changes need attention before coating, especially where cast and machined areas meet on a visible surface.

Coverage, appearance and fit

A visually uniform finish must coexist with functional interfaces. Define visible areas, edges, recesses, masking and coating allowances together, then align appearance samples and the required adhesion or corrosion checks.

Review the geometry and final finish together: identify critical dimensions, visible surfaces and functional interfaces; agree the appearance reference and relevant tests. This makes upstream manufacturing decisions serve the finished part, and gives the team a shared acceptance target.
